Enchambered Escape Room: Spoiler-Free Review

We finally made it out to the escape room most consistently recommended by other people in our area, and it did not disappoint. As a testament to its quality, Enchambered was also voted best escape room in the nation for 2023!

Enchambered - Sacramento

Rooms: So far, we've only played the one, but it was great! The settings was completely immersive with sound effects (sometimes on the loud side), fully decorated in the theme of the story which was awesome. Puzzles and props were well-suited for the theme without red herrings. And apparently every room has a pair of gloves as a fun, little Easter egg.

  • Containment Breach: 38 players, Medium (as rated by venue)
    • An abandoned lab you must explore to discover what happened to the scientist who disappeared...! Puzzles were plentiful, diverse and fun to figure out.
      • Solved with 5 people (and 2 dogs!) with 20 minutes to spare, 3 hints!
  • Skull Witch: 3–8 players, Expert
    • A witch's hut with spooky (but not scary) vibes and lots of out-of-the-box puzzles. The timer in this one is lights hanging from a tree near the ceiling—cool effect, but easy to lose track of time!
      • Our first non-solve! I believe we had about 2.5 puzzles left when the timer ran out, but that's our own fault for a) trying literally the hardest room they have after not doing any escape rooms for a month, b) not using any hints until we were running out of time, and c) doing a 3+ player game with 2 people. (They also took our picture in front of the wrong background, lol.) C'est la vis!
  • Trouble in the Toy Shop: 2–4 players, Medium
    • TBD
  • Whispering Halls: 5–10 players, Hard
    • TBD

Cost: $80 for 2 people, plus $5 per person Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Gamemasters: Very helpful and kind. Told us all about the company as well as the rooms, how hard/scary they are, options for booking and such.

Puzzles: There was a fun variety of things to do including combination locks with letters and numbers, manual placement of items in strategic formations, keypads, ciphers and other fun ways to get the necessary codes.

Timer: The one room we played had a digital timer above the start/end door. A speaker would also announce remaining time in 15-minute increments.

Hints: Hints are unlimited and requested/delivered through a phone in each room. In our first room, we requested no hints, but were called by the gamemaster a few times to nudge us in the right direction. The cool thing is, they offer these hints but you don't have to accept them if you want to do it on your own. In the second room, hints were delivered through a magic book...

Leaderboard: No leaderboard.

Lobby: THE. COOLEST. ENTRY of all the places we've been so far. Completely immersive with amazing, eerie vibes throughout the entry, halls and basically everywhere you look. Also, you have to ring an old-fashioned bell to enter at all.

Photo Ops: We got to take photos inside the room holding props AND they have an exit lobby where they project the title of the room you played as a backdrop with a closet full of cloaks, coats, hats and other fun props to dress up with for the photo.

Overall Fun: Very!

TLDR: 5/5 - would escape again
